Milton Bernard “Milt" Thompson was born January 5th, 1959 in Washington, DC. He is a former Major League Baseball outfielder and pinch hitter. Thompson is currently the hitting coach for the Philadelphia Phillies. He joined the Phillies in 1998 as a minor league coach (outfield/ baserunning coordinator) for the farm system. In 2003, Thompson became the first base coach for the major league staff, changing positions the following year as hitting coach. Under his guidance, the Phillies have scored more runs (3,363) than any other NL club. As hitting coach for the 2008 World Champion Phillies, Milt earned his first World Series ring of his 30 years in baseball.

Baseball Career

Thompson started his major league career with the Atlanta Braves in 1979 and was later traded to the Phillies in 1986. In 1987, Thompson was 9th in hitting in the National League. In 1988, Thompson was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals where he spent four years with a batting average of .307, his highest ever. In 1992, Thompson became a free agent and signed again with the Philadelphia Phillies, playing left field for the 1993 National League Champions through the World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays. Overall, Thompson played for six teams (Braves, Phillies, Cardinals, Astros, Dodgers, and Rockies) in his major league career that ended in 1996.

In the offseason, Milt enjoys coaching young people who are passionate about baseball. Milt has four daughters and resides in South Jersey.
